San Juan Basin Public Health's mission is to protect human and environmental health and inspire well-being in our community.
San Juan Basin Public Health is a local public health agency serving the residents of La Plata and Archuleta counties with more than 30 public health programs. We currently serve as the backbone agency for a community-based suicide prevention initiative.
To respond to suicide as a public health issue, we serve as the backbone agency for a community-based Collective Impact initiative. Collective Impact is a framework for collaboration among multiple organizations and individuals who strive for a common vision, shared goals and measures, and mutually reinforcing activities. This involves ongoing stakeholder meetings and workgroups in La Plata/ San Juan, and Archuleta Counties to prioritize and modify strategies in response to community needs.
A call to action:
Suicide is a complex issue that involves psychological, environmental, and social factors. Opening the door to action starts with increasing awareness about suicide as a public health issue and understanding that we all play a role in addressing the problem. SJBPH encourages all community members to familiarize themselves with the Let’s Talk Campaign letstalkco.org / hablemosco.org. Also, we encourage involvement in the community-based collective impact process through the workgroups that have formed. We hope you join the movement to prevent suicide in our community.
